HRB-funded CDA, NEPTuNE, hosts final Study Day

The HRB Neonatal Encephalopathy PhD Training Network (NEPTuNE) hosts final Study Day on May 27^th, 2024.

As we approach the end of the programme, our closing meeting will take place on Monday, 27^th May at 10.30 am in Regent House on Trinity College’s main campus. The event will include a 2.5 hour-long Open Meeting where our programme leads, PhD scholars and PPI partner will present the successes of the programme. Dr. Annalisa Montesanti from the HRB will speak of the benefits of the Collaborative Doctoral Award and answer questions from the audience and Prof. Nikki Robertson, Consultant Neonatologist and Professor of Perinatal Neuroscience at the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Institute for Women’s Health, University College London (UCL) and at the University of Edinburgh will also present at the meeting.

The NEPTuNE programme commenced in May 2018. It brought researchers with expertise in neonatology, paediatrics, neurodevelopment, PPI, clinical trials and methodology, and neuroimaging in neonatal brain injury together to improve outcomes for infants with NE.

The €1.4 million Collaborative Doctoral Award led by Prof. Eleanor Molloy, Consultant Neonatologist and Chair of Paediatrics TCD, and co-lead, Prof. Geraldine Boylan, Director of INFANT Centre, UCC, included collaborators Declan Devan, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Professor of Health Research Methodology, University of Galway and Mandy Daly, Irish Neonatal Health Alliance.

By the end of summer 2024, 7 PhD scholars will have graduated from it. Key to the success of the programme was the commitment from our PPI partner, the Irish Neonatal Health Alliance. Our training framework delivered a programme of expert presentations to scholars.
