Leanna Fogarty

Leanna Fogarty is a Chartered Senior Clinical Paediatric Neuropsychologist working within INFANT to establish an Early Life Lab for the neuropsychological and developmental assessment of young children from birth to early childhood. Participating in the assessment of young children, applying sound psychological theory and practice to enhance awareness of psychological approaches within INFANT.

Leanna graduated from UCC with a B.A. Hons in applied Psychology and Sociology, followed by an M.A.Q in Applied Psychology. Furthering her career in Clinical Psychology, she obtained her professional training through the Psychological Society of Ireland in 2004. From 2007 to October 2016, Leanna worked as a Senior Clinical Psychologist in Enable Ireland Cork Services, providing specialist neuro-psychological assessment and intervention to clients presenting with physical, cognitive, behavioural or educational change in the context of a defined physical disability. Presenting physical disability was predominately as a result of a neurological deficit, congenital or acquired.

She worked in an inter-trans-disciplinary team based service providing a psychological service to children and adolescents to promote adjustment and improve outcomes for these children and their families. Having responsibility for the delivery and ongoing development of psychological services to plan, organize, motivate and deliver a range of initiatives which encouraged the application of psychological and neuropsychological principles to support children who are diagnosed with, or at risk of, physical disabilities and developmental delays. Working within a family systems framework that supported families with wider contextual difficulties that can manifest in children with complex neurological and physical presentations, such as crisis management, behaviour management, trauma and grief, learning difficulties, anxiety management and depression etc. Following completion of a Masters in Paediatric Neuropsychology in University College London her clinical and research actives became focused on psychological processes and interventions in neuropsychology with specialist expertise and interests in prematurity and impact of same on learning and behaviour; neonatal and childhood stroke; epilepsy in childhood; brain tumours in childhood; intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), impact on learning and behaviour. She is a Chartered member of Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI), with full membership practitioner status of the PSI Division of Neuropsychology.
